Change speed limits from 20 to 25mph on main roads that where lowered from 30mph

Petition Details

I want you to change any 20mph roads that where lowered from 30mph to 25mph as its more dangerous to drive at 20mph.

Additional Information

I drive with a black box as I am a young driver I respect the speed limit. However, because 20mph is not the norm for most drivers; most young drivers get harassed, damage to their vehicles, etc. on the road. 25mph is the limit that I have found that other drivers can accept without pressuring me to go faster. This makes it safer for young drivers as other drivers will not dangerously overtake almost causing an accident.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Government sets national speed limits, but deciding whether to have lower speed limits for certain roads is a matter for individual local authorities, not the Government or House of Commons.

If you are concerned about speed limits on roads in your area you could raise this issue with a local councillor, who represents you. You can use this page to find out who your local councillors are, and how to contact them: www.gov.uk/find-your-local-councillors
