Petition Action

Add a new Human Right. The right to be safe from harm online.

Petition Details

By adopting this twenty-first century human right, we empower society to construct measures to protect from harm online mutually. Furthermore, we are advancing the ethical responsibility of all those involved in current and future technology developments.

Additional Information

The ‘Online Safety Bill’ is expected this year and will ‘give effect to the new regulatory framework for online harms’. I believe these measures do not go far enough into addressing the ability for a person to be harmed or harm online. Nor maintain protection from online harm throughout the digital world’s rapid evolution in the decades to come.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. The Human Rights Act transposes the articles of the European Convention of Human Rights into UK law, and we're not sure whether you want the UK to have different rights to the existing convention, or the Government to work internationally to create a new universal human right.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
