Remove the automatic right to full UK citizenship by marrying a UK citizen
Some people arrive here with the intention to marry a UK citizen in order to gain citizenship and social security benefits. Others try to get their offspring married to a UK citizen for the same reason. It's big business puts a huge strain on the taxpayer. It must stop.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you are concerned about existing eligibility for UK citizenship for people married to a UK citizen, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.
People married to a British citizen must meet a number of other conditions in order to be eligible to apply for British citizenship. You can read about eligibility to apply for citizenship if your spouse is a British citizen here: www.gov.uk/apply-citizenship-spouse
We could accept a petition calling for these rules to be changed, but it would need to be clear how you wanted these rules to be changed.
