Petition Action

Give councils the power to remove dogs from the owners who leave them barking

Petition Details

Give councils the power to remove dogs from people who constantly leave their dogs in the garden barking.
I cannot sit in my garden anymore and just enjoy it, I am constantly interrupted by dogs barking, which is having an effect on my welfare.

Additional Information

Since lock down hundreds of inconsiderate people have bought dogs and just leave them in the garden barking.
Where I live my life is being effected to the extent I don't want to sit in my garden and enjoy it.
At the moment the council can contact the irresponsible owners but do not have the power to remove dogs from constant offenders.
They need more powers.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about the behaviour of dogs, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

The police, councils and other authorities already have a number of powers they can use to control or improve the behaviour of dogs. This includes, in the most serious circumstances, powers for dogs to be removed or destroyed: www.gov.uk/guidance/control-dogs

We could accept a petition calling for changes to these powers, or new requirements being placed on local councils or other authorities, but it would need to be clear exactly what changes you wanted.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
