Petition Action

Stop any British football team in joining the European football super league

Petition Details

Football is a tool of which allows a range of benefits such as employment, and other factors for individuals to enjoy. Football fills individuals with passion, emotion, excitement and dedication across the community. With the planned break away this will damage any future of the game

Additional Information

To save generations of sporting stars and clubs in the lower league. The government need to stop this from arising to save the national sport. This would have devastating effects on all levels of the game forcing clubs potentially out of business, people out of work but most of all individuals from losing interest in this as-well as other sports. I ask all supporters to sign this petition and stop the new European super league for the sake of our game and employment opportunities in the future

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We understand you're concerned about English clubs joining the proposed European Super League, however since you started your petition the Government has clearly expressed its opposition to the plans and the six participating English clubs have all withdrawn, so it is not clear what it is you would like the Government to do.

As you might know, on Monday 19 April the Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden MP said that he was appalled by the announcement that a handful of clubs are proposing to form their own breakaway European league, ands said the Government would not hesitate to protect one of our greatest national institutions: football. The Culture Secretary said that the Government would back the football authorities to stop this move, and if the football authorities couldn’t act, the Government would. The Culture Secretary said the Government would "put everything on the table to prevent this from happening."
