Stopping the European Super League and Reforming British Football
The government must take any and all necessary measures to stop British teams breaking away to form a "European Super League"; and introduce a commission to review British football including consideration of introducing fan ownership models and introduction of an independent regulator.
For many communities the football club is at its heart, where we go to relax and support our local team. Yet, far too often these communities have had that ripped away with decisions taken without the consents of the fans. The decision of the Six clubs to form a "Super League" is a threat to all of British football. It represents the greed and profiteering now at the heart of our beautiful game. Please consider signing this petition to try and put football back in the hands of the fans.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We understand you're concerned about English clubs joining the proposed European Super League, however since you started your petition the six participating English clubs have all withdrawn, and the Government has launched a fan-led review of football governance.
On Monday 19 April the Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden MP said that he was appalled by the announcement that a handful of clubs are proposing to form their own breakaway European league, ands said the Government would not hesitate to protect one of our greatest national institutions: football. The Culture Secretary said that the Government would back the football authorities to stop this move, and if the football authorities couldn’t act, the Government would. The Culture Secretary said the Government would "put everything on the table to prevent this from happening."

Further, on 19 April the Government announced a 'Fan-led review of football governance', which will explore ways of improving the governance, ownership and financial sustainability of clubs in English football, building on the strengths of the football pyramid.
