Parliament should debate India's human rights record to help formulate UK policy

Petition Details

Indian PM Modi's majoritarian rule has marginalised Muslims, Sikhs, Dalits & Christians, & targeted peaceful protestors in India & disputed region of Jammu & Kashmir. Many in the UK's diaspora communities oppose his UK G7 summit visit. UK policy should help protect basic human rights in the region.

Additional Information

Recent statements of globally respected rights bodies:
Amnesty Int:“witch-hunt of HR organisations”
5 UN Special Rapporteurs on disputed Kashmir: harsh restrictions on Muslim-majority areas, revoking Article 370 & demographic change
UNHCHR on farmer protests: charges of sedition...disturbing departures from human rights
USCIRF: Religious freedom conditions in India are taking a drastic turn downward
Freedom House:Govt. & its allies have presided over rising violence & discriminatory policies

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. We understand you'd like a debate on the situation in India, but we're not sure what you'd like the outcome of this to be.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
