Allow Petitions Calling for Removing Parliamentary Privilege for MPs/Lords
Parliamentary Privilege is a legal immunity enjoyed by MPs/Lords who are granted protection against civil or criminal liability for actions done. Currently the government does not allow petitions calling for the removal of MPs/Lords’ Parliamentary Privileges. Accountability & new laws are required.
The public has a fundamental right to challenge/change existing policy, not allowing this is dismantling our civil liberties. New laws need to be introduced with legal accountability for MPs/Lords when the general public’s safety/welfare is at risk. MPs & those running government departments must be accountable and not favour their own interests (i.e. business, 2nd jobs, party donors or lobbyists) over the public & constituents. The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards is not fit for purpose
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
It is already possible to start petitions calling for parliamentary privilege to be removed. A petition requesting this action was started in the last Parliament.
If you want to start a petition requesting parliamentary privilege is removed, you can do this here: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/check
