Death registration and burials on weekends and bank holidays. Do you agree?

Petition Details

Legislate against punitive charges on weekends and bank holidays re burials fees and provide central funding budget for registry office and cemeteries to pay for extra staff to provide out of office hours service in week ends and bank holidays.

Additional Information

Across the UK some local government are providing the service and some aren't as they are struggling with funding, budget or legislation/guidance. Some faith groups also can't bury or cremate their loved ones as quickly as they wish. Some bereaved families cannot attend funerals during the week due inability to take time off by employers! This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or House of Commons is responsible for.

Decisions about death registration and burials are a matter for individual local authorities, not the Government or House of Commons.

You could raise this issue with a local councillor, who represents you. You can use this page to find out who your local councillors are, and how to contact them: www.gov.uk/find-your-local-councillors
