Introduce Statutory licensing and regulation of Builders/Construction workers

Petition Details

The Government should require all builders and other construction workers to be registered with a Government regulator, which has the power to investigate complaints and enforce remedies including financial penalties, and abide by a code of practice enshrining the rights of consumers.

Additional Information

Yearly, hundreds are scammed by Rogue Traders. Current protections for consumers are inadequate, leaving victims who have been scammed or left with poor or dangerous workmanship at the hands of rogue builders unprotected. It's too easy for a rogue builder to prey on homeowners, and the few avenues of redress are costly for victims. Mandatory licensing and regulation of these workers should help protect consumers.
