Business, Money & Finance education a compulsory school subject for everyone

Petition Details

I want the Government to make Business, Money & Finance a mandatory subject along side Maths & English for all students in Primary & Secondary school education.

Additional Information

Students leave Primary & Secondary school with little or no financial education at all. This knowledge is fundamental to live and prosper in today’s society.

It will help our younger generation to make better quality and informed financial decisions, it will create more creative and critical thinkers, leading to more job creators and prosperity.

This is a subject saved for the upper class and I believe it’s now time to level the playing field for children & students from all backgrounds.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you want to see changes the national curriculum, but schools are already required to teach students in primary and secondary school about managing money and financial planning as part of the citizenship curriculum.

You can read the citizenship programmes of study here:

Key stages 1 and 2: www.gov.uk/government/publications/citizenship-programmes-of-study-for-key-stages-1-and-2

Key stages 3 and 4: www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-curriculum-in-england-citizenship-programmes-of-study

If there is something that is not already in the curriculum that you would like to be added you could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
