End restrictions for partners to attend maternity appointments and scans
End restrictions for partners to attend all maternity appointments and scans. Support is needed.
Recently I have been through my first pregnancy and it's not been how I had in mind. I haven't enjoyed the ride all on my own and feel as though it is mentally hard to hear bad news and enjoy the good news without the baby's father attending.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Decisions about visitors are a matter for the NHS, not the Government or House of Commons.
With regard to antenatal appointments, scans, and the birth itself, on 15 April, NHS guidance was issued stating that further to a
risk assessment, that a woman should have access to support from a person of her choosing at all stages of her maternity journey and that all trusts should facilitate this as quickly as possible: www.england.nhs.uk/coronavirus/wp-content/uploads/sites/52/2020/12/C1243_Supporting-pregnant-women-using-maternity-services-actions-for-providers_150421.pdf
This means that visiting is now subject to local discretion by trusts and other NHS bodies. You should check with your maternity team and sonography unit for their policy on visitors attending antenatal appointments, including scans.
