Petition Action

Support the people of Sudan by cancelling their UK debt.

Petition Details

The current official debt is £861m, of which £684m is from accrued interest. Rather than offer small amounts of 'aid', the Government should cancel the current debt of £861m to enable the Sudanese to invest in developing their economy and improving the lives of it’s citizens in the way they see fit.

Additional Information

In 2019, after 30 years living under a military regime, the Sudanese had a peaceful uprising followed by a military coup & the fall of the President. On June 3rd government forces dispersed a peaceful sit-in killing over 100 people. An interim military/civilian government was set up in August 2019 with national elections planned for 2022. The Sudanese people are now working through a difficult transition to democracy with significant & diverse needs to address. They need our support.
