Petition Action

Remove requirements for collective worship in state schools

Petition Details

Pupils are required to "take part in an act of collective worship" each day, unless a parent requests they are excused.
This is misplaced in a country where >50% say they belong to no religion, and excluding children, even at the parent's request, is not in keeping with inclusiveness.

Additional Information

The Education Minister has stated that schools not complying will be investigated and reminded of their duty. This strengthens the need for change.
