Use rental history as a means of proof for mortgage applications.
As a self employed person I cannot get a mortgage without 2yrs minimum accounts, I want the government to force the mortgage lenders to accept rental history.
There are thousands upon thousands of self employed people in the predicament, wasting money when we could be buying our own house and renovating for the future. Whilst trying to get back on the property ladder I have wasted £18k in rent, of which has been paid without fail on the 1st of the month. If I can afford this rent for more than 3yrs I can afford a mortgage, but despite a reasonable deposit, there is still no way to achieve this.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or House of Commons is responsible for.
Decisions about lending mortgages are a matter for indiviudal lenders, not the Government or House of Commons.
Landlords are able to report rental income to credit agencies, who can then take this into account as part of their rental scores. It is a decision for landlords and credit agencies whether or not to do this, The Government aren't responsible for operation of credit rating agencies or mortgage lenders.
