Bring in mandatory voting for major elections.
I propose mandatory voting for all General Elections, By-elections, Referenda, and devolved powers elections.
Recently in the Hartlepool By-Election there was a turn out of 42% of eligible voters. The last general election many areas had around 50% of eligible voters actually turn up.
No candidate should be elected to power on such a low percentage turnout of voters, nor should any constitutional decision be made.
There is a huge issue of disenfranchised voters in this country. If we bring in mandatory voting, my hope is that it will force the public to engage with what is going on politically, and force the candidates to engage with the people they are supposed to represent.

It's not clear what you mean by "devolved powers elections". If you mean votes for the devolved Parliaments and Assembly, we could accept a petition calling for compulsory voting for all elections to national Parliaments and Assemblies, and referendums.
