Voting in elections should not require photo ID.
Today it was announced that voting in democratic elections will require photo ID. ID can be expensive for people who can barely afford food and rent. Voting should not require ID. This makes voting exclusive to those that can afford the ID.
Those affected by homelessness or those who rely on a combination of welfare or poorly paid work are realistically not going to be able to budget around £90 for a passport for example. This is a way to ensure voting becomes somewhat of a status marker. In a democracy - everyone’s voice should be heard regardless of their financial situation. How can policy benefit everyone when not everyone can vote for change?
