Petition Action

Amend the Overseas Operations Bill. Remove triple lock in cases of torture.

Petition Details

The Government is proposing a bill that makes it near impossible to prosecute almost all cases of torture and war crimes 5 years after the offence.

Thus Bill may deny justice to victims of torture and reduce the likelihood of crimes committed by military personnel being looked into.

Additional Information

The five year rule would include war crimes, torture or other appalling abuses.

It means that prosecutions which could otherwise have gone ahead would no longer be able to do so.

It places members of the Armed Forces above the ordinary criminal law - in a way that is completely unprecedented.
