Make child first aid teaching compulsory in all NHS antenatal classes
Not all NHS trusts provide free child first aid as part of their antenatal classes. Most first aid courses for children have to be paid for through private firms e.g. NCT which not all parents to be can afford.
My 9 month old daughter choked on a foreign item found in a jar of baby food. Luckily I knew first aid but her story has been shared around the country and the amount of people that have stated they wouldn’t know what to do is shocking. First aid is a knowledge that you hope you would never have to put to physical use but if you have to you are prepared and are more likely to save a child’s life. Why should you have to pay to know how to potentially save a child’s life?
