Significantly increase funding for child and adolescent mental health services
Children are being failed daily by the current CAMHS system, they are unable to access care and the care they can access is of an unacceptable standard.
This is a widespread issue largely due to funding and yet insufficient action has been taken.
The government needs to make CAMHS a priority.
Currently, CAMHS accounts for 0.7% of NHS funding and 6.4% of mental health funding (YoungMinds). This is despite the fact that:
• 20% of adolescents may experience a mental health problem in any given year.
• 50% of mental health problems are established by age 14.
• 10% of 5-16 year olds have a clinically diagnosable mental health problem.
• 70% of children & adolescents with mental health problems have not had appropriate interventions at a sufficiently early age.
