Petition Action

Enforce standardised sizing guidelines across all UK clothing retailers.

Petition Details

With clothes sizes in UK clothing stores differing within stores and from store-to-store, women all over the country are developing poor mental health as a result. The government could enforce standardised sizing regulations that all UK clothing retailers must follow in order to trade.

Additional Information

A nursing student broke down while out shopping for new clothes because she had to size up multiple sizes, "I had a complete breakdown and left the store in tears." There are countless stories from women across the country, all of which end in a similar way – with tears and no change.

Speaking to 200 women, 95% agree sizing is an issue in the UK.

The government needs to enforce regulations that UK clothing retailers must follow – this would improve the mental health of millions of women.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The Government aren't responsible for regulating the size of clothes, which is a matter for individual retailers.
