Make Calorie Labelled Menus An Optional choice

Petition Details

In the Queen’s speech on 11.05.2021 Government plans to introduce legislation enforcing businesses with over 250 employees to calorie label all food they sell was announced. We ask the government to amend this legislation so that businesses can offer 2 types of menus:calorie labelled & non-labelled

Additional Information

Calorie counting as a means of controlling obesity has been proven ineffective with 95% of calorie counters actually going on to gain weight.
Furthermore, during the pandemic incidences of Eating disorders- Anorexia being the deadliest of all psychiatric illnesses- have shot up. This legislation would negatively impact the entire population, not just people with diagnosed ED’s.
As a compromise, offering 2 choices of menus would allow vulnerable people the autonomy to not look at the calories.
