Petition Action

Commission an independent review into the BBC's use of the license fee.

Petition Details

Commission an independent review into the BBC'S use of the license fee and find out why they do not use it effectively and feel the need to cancel long running popular shows.

Additional Information

The BBC is publicly funded because of the license fee but the material produced does not reflect the wants of the public and it is not fair to expect the public to continue paying for unwanted/uneeded content.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the Government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations, including the commissioning of particular programmes.
