Protect the title Nurse in UK law
The term nurse can be used by anyone in the UK. They can use this term to offer professional advice and services even if they have no nursing qualifications, experience or even if they have been struck off a professional register.
The use of the title nurse is used by people with no nursing qualifications, experience or even those who have been struck off.
The title Nurse should be protected the same way titles such as Paramedic and Physiotherapist are, to protect the public.
It should be limited in use to those on professional nursing registers or regulated professionals (for example Registered Nurses, Dental Nurses).
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
It is already an offence to use the title of "registered nurse" or present oneself as possess qualifications in nursing if they are not a registered or qualified nurse: www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2002/253/article/44/made
