Improve care planning for Expectant Mum's to be in Residential Care

Petition Details

Change policy to support 'young mums to be' who are in the Care System are living in a home where they will return to after their babies are born - at least 2 months before their due date and that the distance between them and their friends, family and support networks remains the same.

Additional Information

I am aware of experiences of young mums who have been living in Children's Homes and who do not know where they will be going before they go to hospital to give birth to their babies, I think that this is outrageous as it further compounds care trauma at the most difficult and stressful time in person's life, many young people's experiences are made harder because of the process and lack of coherent planning this is not acceptable and needs to be changed.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about existing arrangements for mothers to be who are in care, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

Arrangements for people in care are a matter for individual local authorities, but we could accept a petition calling for the Government to provide additional funding or create new requirements for local authorities to change how care is provided, if those are things you would like to happen.
