Protect term "Assistance Dogs"
Fake service/ assistance dogs damage public health, safety & trust, and impinge the established rights for disabled people.
Protect the term “Assistance Dogs” (AD) in law to ensure Assistance Dogs have freedom of access promised under EA2010 (DDA in NI) & UN Conventions.
“Assistance dogs” are only those assessed for temperament/personality, trained, with ongoing health/ behaviour monitoring, in service/ training for service to support a disabled person in activities of daily living, and certified as such by a recognised AD charity/ organisation.
Consultation with AD charities, Assistance Dogs UK, and clients can ensure legislation is adequate without being obstructive, and promotes understanding of rights as well as key terms.
Penalty for false representation or certification is needed to ensure compliance, highest standards, public health/wellbeing, animal rights, and to protect against fraud (false provision/ credentials).
Assistance Dogs deserve recognition.
