Petition Details

Remove ability of employer to make employee to opt out of 48 hours week. Please make 48 hours week compulsory for Hospitality and catering staff.

Additional Information

Hospitality and catering staff is forced to sign a form to opt out of 48 hours working week, working excessive hours every week, not getting paid overtime and it effects their mental and physical health seriously.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Employees can choose to work more than 48 hours a week by opting out, and your employer can ask you to opt out, but you can’t be sacked or treated unfairly for refusing to do so: www.gov.uk/maximum-weekly-working-hours/weekly-maximum-working-hours-and-opting-out

If what you want is for the Government to remove the ability of employees to opt out of working more than 48 hours a week, we could accept a petition requesting this.
