Make the sentence for assault of any Crown servant a minimum 1 year custodial.

Additional Information

There is an inherent lack of respect for law enforcement officials in the UK. This is compounded by the lack of support such officers received when they are victims of assault themselves.

A mandatory minimum custodial sentence of 1 year for the assault of any uniformed law enforcement officer employed in the service of the Government or Crown would send a message out: both to the public and to the officers themselves, increasing public respect, and staff morale.
