Petition Action

The Government to organise an Investigation into Security Breaches

Petition Details

Due to recent CCTV Images of the Home Secretary being released into the Public Domain, There are obviously Major Security Breaches that need a high-level investigation. These cannot continue as Secrets may very well be released. This also applies to documentation taken and left at Bus Stops

Additional Information

To conduct the Highest level of Investigation in order to stop these security leaks, along with taking the appropriate actions. This may include a revamp of the Official Secrets Act and penalties for the breaches. This is a very important action that needs to be taken NOW and not in months time. Security is imperative and needs action NOW

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about recent events involving the loss or distribution of certain information, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

The Government has confirmed that investigations are being conducted into the loss of classified documents by a senior official at the Ministry of Defence, and the leak of footage from a security camera in the Department for Health and Social Care.

You can read the Minister for Defence Procurement tell the House about plans for an investigation into the loss of classified documents here: hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2021-06-28/debates/95AB5E0B-D666-4341-B687-1D9AF333C5F4/LossOfSecretDocuments#contribution-8E857B60-8AF9-422A-8143-ADB9B422D036

And you can read a Cabinet Office Minister tell the House about the Department of Health and Social Care's investigation into the leak of footage from a security camera to the media here: hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2021-06-28/debates/39713A34-4F3E-491B-B736-FD7F38658881/SecurityOfMinisters%E2%80%99OfficesAndCommunications

If you want the Government to review how reported losses of classified information, or leaks, are investigated, and the penalties that relate to such incidents, we could accept a petition requesting this.
