Petition Action

require the Speaker of the Commons to compel the PM to answer questions at PMQs

Petition Details

Every week, the Prime Minister treats the house, and voters, with contempt, refusing to directly answer opposition questions at Prime Ministers Questions. He deflects by either talking about the opposition, denying the public is interested, or by changing the subject completely.

Additional Information

This makes a mockery of the idea of PMQs and means that the Prime Minister deliberately denies the house and the voters, democratic scrutiny and debate about the issues of the day,

We would like the Speaker of the House of Commons and the Deputy Speaker, to compel the Prime Minister to properly address and answer questions as put to him by members of the house

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament as a whole aren't responsible for the issue you raise. Order in the Commons is the responsibility of the Speaker personally, and the Prime Minister is responsible for answers to questions.
