Change Covid testing for toddlers (3 and under)

Petition Details

I recently took my 20 month old son for his 4th Covid test. He started nursery in November and has picked up various bugs which have given him a temperature. Bugs are good for children’s immune systems but the net effect is that parents are having to take them for repeated Covid tests

Additional Information

Testing a toddler for Covid who doesn’t understand what’s happening is an awful experience for the child and parent. As a working mum, I would love to avoid this and keep him home for 10 days but that’s not possible. After the trauma of our 4th test I’ve decided it’s time someone gives our toddlers a voice. I’m calling on the UK government to stop Covid tests on toddlers unless they have 2 or more symptoms and to start using a less intrusive test.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. These are clinical decisions for the NHS.

We could accept a petition calling for the Government to fund research of non-invasive Covid testing for infants, if that's what you'd like to see happen.
