Impose a ban on virginity testing in the United Kingdom.
Debate the issue of virginity testing and produce legislation to ban this practice. The legislation should specify offences and punishments for coercing women into having this procedure. Specify offences and punishments for practitioners and those who assist them in this respect.
Thousands of young women and girls are forced or otherwise coerced by their families and the families of their would be husbands into providing evidence to prove their virginity prior to marriage. This degrading procedure causes lasting mental trauma.
It has no place in our society and should be illegal.
