Petition Action

Create a parliamentary seat to represent the needs of people with no fixed abode

Petition Details

Allow people with no fixed abode to elect an MP to represent their interests. This should be a recognised living arrangement and constituency people can register to vote for.

Additional Information

The government has overseen unprecedented public land sales and hostile legislation that restricts or even criminalises the lifestyles of gypsy, Roma, waterways and other nomadic peoples who are already routinely denied access to basic services and democracy because they don't have a postcode.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. Parliamentary constituencies are based on locations rather than characteristics. It's already possible for people with no fixed abode to register to vote:

www.gov.uk/government/publications/register-to-vote-if-you-havent-got-a-fixed-or-permanent-address

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
