Petition Action

Change 30 mph speed limit to a maximum of 20 mph where there are pedestrians.

Petition Details

To improve the safety of residents, school children and shoppers using all pavements next to roads. This to be added to all situations across the board where the current speed limit is not 20 mph.

Additional Information

There are currently many 20 mph zones - why can't this apply everywhere?
At a stroke - reduced speed will improve the safety of pedestrians, decrease pollution from exhaust and noise.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you want to see speeds reduced on certain roads, but we're not sure exactly what roads you want speed limits to be reduced on. Pedestrian are free to walk along the side of any carriageway other than a motorway or a motorway slip road, but we don't think you want the Government to reduce the speed limit for all such roads.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what roads you would like the Government to change speed limits for.
