Introduce Charter for Social Housing and strengthen tenants’ rights

Petition Details

We call on the Government to end the scandal of poor-quality Exempt Accommodation by introducing its proposed Charter for Social Housing, so vulnerable people are housed in high-quality accommodation, with appropriate support in place.

Additional Information

These changes are necessary to stop rogue landlords capitalising on legal loopholes.

We are calling on the Government to adopt 5 measures:
1. Adopt the proposed national Charter of Rights for Social Housing & a Quality Assurance Framework
2. Change the law to give Local Authorities and the Regulator of Social Housing greater powers and funding for enforcement
3. Change the law to classify Exempt Accommodation as HMO in planning law
4. Change the law to define the level of support for tenants required
5. Change the law to require local impact assessments to be carried out prior to approval of new accommodation
