Introduce mandatory training for service staff on breastfeeding rights
I’ve recently been discriminated against at a local cafe by being told that in order to breastfeed my daughter I would need to “cover up” and to do it “discreetly”. All employers should ensure their staff understand the laws regarding breastfeeding so other mothers don’t have a negative experience.
This is not ok. Babies aren’t able to control when they are hungry, when they’re hungry they need it there and then. Parents shouldn’t have to worry about getting negative comments when feeding their child. Staff need to be aware of the laws in order to know how to deal with any customers who may make negative comments, but also to ensure they are not breaking the law themselves by making inappropriate comments and making mothers uncomfortable.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or House of Commons is responsible for.
Decisions about training for service staff are a matter for individual businesses in the service industry, not the Government or House of Commons. As a result it is not possible for the Government or House of Commons to take the action you have requested.
