Petition Action

The Government should not provide subsidies for Air Source Heat Pumps.

Petition Details

Inadequate consideration has been given to the consequences of attempting to replace fossil fuel (gas, oil, etc.) boilers for domestic heating with Air Source Heat Pumps. A significant percentage of govt subsidy will not deliver the benefits expected and consumers will be left with poor outcomes.

Additional Information

Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) are great for high specification new build properties with under floor heating throughout and airtightness in the construction way in excess of current building regs standards. ASHP's are not good retrofits for gas/oil boilers in existing properties with radiator based central heating. To make existing properties suitable for ASHP heating performance is beyond that planned for. The Govt should look carefully at this plan before spending £billions of public money.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about Government subsidies for heat pumps not being used effectively, but we're not sure if you want the Government to end existing grants that cover heat pumps, or not to introduce new grants, or something else.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
