Change primary carer as both parents named on birth certificate for equal rights
I would like equal parental rights for parents named on the birth certificate.
Fathers seem to have zero or not many rights during a separation. It’s not fair that another parent will have to folk out hundreds even thousands pursuing court cases to see their children. This should be equal rights for both parents if they are on the birth certificate and have 50/50 if wanted by both parties. If not this should go to a mediation centre to confirm that one said parent doesn’t want contact. There’s nothing protecting the other parent in this case.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you are concerned about decisions about child arrangements after separation, but it is not the case that mothers have greater rights than fathers in separation.
If the parents of a child cannot come to an agreement about arrangements for their child after separation, a court can make an order about child arrangements, and the primary consideration in making an order is the child's welfare.
If what you want is for all parents with parental responsibility to have a right to 50:50 contact with their child after separation, we could accept a petition requesting that.
