Extend regulation of the security sector and increase protections for workers
The Government should:
Classify security workers as emergency workers and protect them under the Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act.
Require all in-house security operatives to obtain an SIA licence.
Make it a legal right for security operatives to work for multiple employers.
License holders should be protected and any assaults should be dealt with under the Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act 2018.
Due to the shortage of SIA licensed personnel and industry demands it should be made illegal for security companies to restrict SIA license holders' ability to carry out licensing activity for another security organisation.
