Petition Action

End the Prime Minister's right to be the sole judge of his conduct in office.

Petition Details

Establish an office independent of government to investigate alleged breaches of the Ministerial Code of Conduct with powers to impose sanctions on ministers found in breach.

Additional Information

The Ministerial Code of Conduct prescribes standards for the conduct of all ministers in office, including the Prime Minister. However, enforcement of the Code, even a decision to investigate alleged breaches, is entirely in the hands of the Prime Minister of the day, who is also free to ignore the finding of any actual investigation. This situation is a continuing threat to integrity in British government and leaves the British people at the mercy of shameless Prime Ministers.
