Grant 20,000 vulnerable Afghans refuge in the UK.
Afghans who fear that they could be targets of the Taliban, such as women's rights advocates, human rights workers, and religious minorities, are in urgent need of humanitarian action. The US and Canada are accepting Afghan Refugees. Canada just recently announced granting 20,000 Afghans refuge.
The UK has already shown leadership, giving millions of people from Hong Kong the opportunity to live/work in the UK. This is a golden chance for the UK to double down on its commitment to be a flagbearer of trust/support in the international community. We should uphold our regulations (The Refugee or Person in Need of International Protection (Qualification) Regulations 2006, s.4, Actors of Protection), the UNHCR 1951 Refugee Convention and our "Responsibility to Protect" (2005 World Summit).

The Home Office announced on 18 August 2021 a bespoke resettlement route for Afghan refugees who have been forced to flee the country. The aim is to resettle 5,000 Afghan nationals in the first year of the scheme, and up to 20,000 people in the long-term. You can read more about it on the gov.uk website: www.gov.uk/government/news/bespoke-resettlement-route-for-afghan-refugees-announced
