Call on the UK government to resettle 20,000 Afghan refugees

Petition Details

1.Commit to resettling at least 20,000 Afghans over the next two years in addition to those already promised to be evacuated under the ARAP.
2.Promise to commit to the longer-term resettlement of 10,000 refugees a year globally under the current UKRS.
3.Welcome Afghans seeking asylum

Additional Information

The British government/Parliament should seriously be concerned about the recently rapid events occurring in Afghanistan, specifically the Taliban’s recent take over of the capital, Kabul. Over 1,000 civilians have been killed in the past month and over 4,000 wounded including women and children. On 16 August, 5 civilians catastrophically fell to their death from a moving plane in an attempt to flee Afghanistan and fear of living under Taliban rule.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Home Office announced on 18 August 2021 a bespoke resettlement route for Afghan refugees who have been forced to flee the country. The aim is to resettle 5,000 Afghan nationals in the first year of the scheme, and up to 20,000 people in the long-term. You can read more about it on the gov.uk website: www.gov.uk/government/news/bespoke-resettlement-route-for-afghan-refugees-announced

If you want the Government to increase its commitments to resettling refugees under the UKRS we could accept a petition about this.
