Petition Action

Limit Premier League football player transfers to £100,000,000.

Petition Details

Change the terms of the UK Premier League football such that player transfers are capped at an absolute maximum of £100 million.

Additional Information

Football is a sport and the success of any given club in the Premier League should be driven by sporting ability and not by the depth of the Board's pockets or the ability to borrow money in order to buy players. Limiting player transfer fees via the T&Cs of the Premier League would give the best players the option to play for the club they have the most affinity with rather than the club that simply pays most for them. This in turn would enable smaller clubs more chance to win the league.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or House of Commons is responsible for.

Decisions about salaries for footballers are a matter for football clubs, not the Government or House of Commons.

As a result it is not possible for the Government or House of Commons to take the action you have requested.
