Hold a free speech referendum.
Hold a nation wide vote which would prove that the silent majority of the glorious British people wish to speak there minds freely and not face legal prosecution for stating their opinions. If the vote was to pass it would be up to the government to implement a bill protecting freedom of speech.
The freedom of speech is a fundamental part of a first world democracy, Britain is one of the worlds oldest Democratic countries and has almost always been a advocate for a individual persons rights however in recent times laws have been passed which mean people are going to prison for having a opinion or for even just making jokes, this does not paint a good picture for the UK especially when they condem countries like China for removing individual freedoms of their people.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We understand you are concerned about the protection of freedom of speech in law, however UK citizens' freedom of expression is already protected under the Human Rights Act 1998, so it's not clear what it is you'd like the Government to do following any such referendum.
You can read the Human Rights Act here: www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1998/42/section/12
You could start a petition calling for specific changes to be made to the Human Rights Act, if that is something you'd like to see happen.
