Insure Housing Benefit changes cover rents of Council & Social Housing Tenants
London G15 Housing Associations & Councils are seeking to increase rents that within 5 years would see Key workers and anyone in receipt of welfare unable to pay their rent unless the Housing Benefit aspect to welfare keeps pace in law with the increase
We need the Government to ensure the housing benefit aspect to welfare payments goes up in line with Council and Social Housing rents ( at present rents are rising faster than welfare payments even for those in work ) unless urgent action is taken we will within 5 years see a massive homeless crisis with many on low incomes to poor to qualify for Council or Social Housing this will cause a real crisis in the economy, NHS, schools, etc unless this is addressed urgently
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Housing Benefit and the housing costs element of Universal Credit will normally cover the full cost of accommodation provided by a local authority, a registered housing association or a private registered provider of social housing, and there are no plans for this to change if social housing costs increase.
If you're concerned about the cost of social housing for people who are not in receipt of benefits, we could accept a petition calling on the Government to reduce the amount by which social rents can be increased, if that's something you would like to happen.
