Petition Action

Scrap the mandatory isolation for those entering to live in care homes

Petition Details

Scrap the pointless, cruel, futile isolation of vulnerable and older people heading into care homes. Stress and loneliness are already commonplace in such situations and this is only risking affecting older people's physical, mental and emotional health.

Additional Information

From a personal experience, this extra isolation from covid is causing more problems than its worth. The extra stress this is causing on those who are already vulnerable is crazy and once people have had covid protection, they should be able to return to care homes as normal, without isolation. It is barbaric and defies basic common sense

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Newly admitted residents to a care home only need to self-isolate if they do not meet certain criteria, which are set out here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-admission-and-care-of-people-in-care-homes/coronavirus-covid-19-admission-and-care-of-people-in-care-homes#admission-and-isolation-of-residents

We could accept a petition calling for changes to the circumstances in which people being admitted to care homes need to self-isolate, but it would need to be clear what changes you want to be made to these rules.
