Petition Action

Stop "special mentions" in Primary schools

Petition Details

Ask schools to stop rewarding children with Special Mentions, Golden Learner especially in Primary schools

Additional Information

All children have an area they are good at
in primary schools and then the teacher comes with a Special Mention based on favouritism
and breaks their self esteem/self confidence and they will wonder all their life why weren't they good enough to be mentioned like everyone else in their classroom. Some children will just stop going into further education and most will end up with permanent self esteem damage and feeling worthless. At 4+ years old that can be very distressing and damaging.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or House of Commons is responsible for.

Decisions about whether to have schemes that recognise particular pupils are a matter for individual schools, not the Government or House of Commons.

As a result it is not possible for the Government or House of Commons to take the action you have requested.
