Tougher policing for Dog thefts and longer sentences for Dog thieves
Police need to take dog thefts more seriously as these thefts are now being carried out by violent and dangerous gangs. All thefts should be treated as kidnapping and once caught every dog thief should receive a tough sentence.
Stolen pets are considered “objects” and are treated similarly to a mobile phone or your bag, rather than a living animal. Pets are members of the family and the increase on these thefts are increasing especially for certain breeds. the lack of policing on this matter along with pathetic repercussions are adding to this.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or House of Commons is responsible for.
Decisions about policing are a matter for individual police forces, not the Government or House of Commons. Similarly, decisions about charging suspected criminals of a criminal offences is a matter for the Crown Prosecution Service, not the Government or House of Commons.
We could accept a petition calling for minimum sentences for pet theft to be increased, if that's something you would like to happen.
The Government has announced that it plans to introduce a new pet abduction offence, although it has yet to publish details of this offence. You can find out more about the Government's plans here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/pet-theft-taskforce-report/pet-theft-taskforce-report
