Give school leavers who work as full time carers more UCAS points to enter Uni.

Petition Details

Enhance school leavers UCAS points when they work as full-time paid carers for 6 months plus. Denmark allows school leavers to gain experience, demonstrate commitment, save to study and be accepted to study for their chosen career, even when their exam grades are not quite high enough for Uni entry.

Additional Information

To give potential medical, nursing, midwifery, etc, students the opportunity to enhance their school grades to enter their chosen education. Helps young people affirm healthcare is for them, save prior to their studies and gain entry to qualifications when their results aren’t quite adequate. Helps the NHS and the healthcare sector find future staff who are committed, experienced, enthusiastic. Alleviates shortage of carers, esp live-in carers. There are currently over 100k social care vacancies

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about access to university for people who leave school to become full-time carers, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

UCAS tariff points are awarded for educational qualifications, not employment, and it is up to individual universities to decide what grades to require of applicants.
