Require police disclose & allow reported Non-Crime Hate Incidents be challenged
Impose a statutory duty on each police force to give notice to individuals when Non-Crime Hate Incidents are recorded against them, and give them an opportunity to challenge the allegations within 28 days, with a right of appeal to the court, so that these reports can be deleted if unfounded.
At the moment the police have recorded around 120,000 Non-Crime Hate Incidents. These are often not fully investigated. They are however recorded following a report by someone who experienced the incident as "hateful". These Incidents can be disclosed to potential employers on enhanced DBS checks, affecting employability. Often this is the first time it is revealed to the "perpetrator". This is a breach of the principle of natural justice.
